About WWE

World Wrestling Entertainment, better known by its abbreviation WWE, is a professional wrestling promotion and entertainment company. WWE shows are classed as sports entertainment, with storyline driven, scripted and partially-choreographed matches. However, despite the predetermined aspect of the wrestling matches, the performers often demonstrate highly skilled and dangerous wrestling moves that bring an air of excitement and uncertainty to the performances. WWE takes their performances on tour worldwide and Zenseats is able to offer the very best seats and hospitality packages for the shows across Europe.

History

WWE can be traced back to 1953 with the establishment of Capitol Wrestling Corporation (CWC) which was founded by Jess McMahon and Vincent J McMahon and eventually went on to become WWE, the largest wrestling promotion in the world. Prior to becoming WWE, the brand also went by the names World-Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) and World Wrestling Federation (WWF).

During the 1970s there were three major wrestling promotions, the American Wrestling Association (AWA), the National Wrestling Alliance, and WWWF. The WWWF had focused its promotions in the northeastern United States up to this point but when the 1980s arrived wrestling was suddenly catapulted into the mainstream.

In 1984, Hulk Hogan debuted in what had now been renamed the WWF, and the wrestling world changed forever. Hogan soon went on to become World Champion, his popularity was on par with that of movie and rock star’s and he was instrumental in bringing wrestling to the mainstream. The 1980s also saw the creation of Wrestle Mania, an event that became the most famous in all of wrestling.

During the 1990s the WWF moved more towards a more adult product and away from the caricature style of the 80s. The 90s saw the rise of some of the most recognisable names throughout wrestling history, such as “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Undertaker and The Rock.

In the 2000s the company eventually became the WWE and gave more of a spotlight to women’s wrestling, with female stars such as Sasha Banks, Bayley, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair bursting onto the scene. To this day, WWE remains immensely popular around the world, broadcasting to more than 180 countries and with live events touring worldwide.
